Benice 4. PCGS Fine 12.  This is a fascinating scrip note title reflecting the important lumber industry in Florida at the time. A small rectangular format note, it was engraved and printed by Rawdon, Wright & Co. At the upper left is standing Plenty with a ship offshore. The right end panel shows Lafayette in the center. The date is hard to discern, but most notes were issued around 1825. The signature of the agent is faint, but present. We have handled only one 50 cents note from the series, and that was back in 2002, when we sold a note missing a large piece for $103.50. That note was unlike the pleasing example here, and it lacked the desirable Newman Collection pedigree. In the last Newman Collection sale, there was great interest in the extremely rare $1 note from the issuer, which realized $4,465. This certainly strikes us as a four-figure Florida issued note, and it is needed by many collections. Ex: Eric P.
