Confederate States of America - T32 $5 1861 PF-2, Cr. 249. PCGS Very Fine 30 Apparent. The T32 $5 notes from this September 2, 1861, series, along with its companion T23 $10, are fascinating types. Leggett, Keatinge & Ball, Richmond Va., received plates from the Mechanics Savings Bank, Savannah, Georgia (originally engraved by Bald, Adams & Co., New-York/Bald, Cousland & Co., Philadelphia) to re-engrave and adapt for these attractive, rare types. Printed on red fiber paper, this is a pleasing, uncancelled note. The vignette and counter structure are the same as on the Savannah plate with updated titles, obligations, and imprint. At the lower right is a large vignette of a seated blacksmith. At the lower left is a child wearing a fancy shirt. The top corners have differently styled denomination dies. An updated vermillion protector plate was created for the note with FIVE across the bottom, left center, a large \"5\" top center under the title, and smaller \"V\" at far right. Plate Aa. Serial number 9988. A well-bodied note with subdued vermillion color. The margins are complete and there are only some noted \"Small Rust Stains\" which are confined to the far lower right corner.
