Proof. PCGS Choice New 63.  The Dane County Bank became the First National Bank of Madison, and we have never seen an issued note from the title, only rare proofs. This is an India paper proof mounted on its original card, engraved and printed by Danforth, Wright & Co. The layout is quite interesting. A reclining Native American princess leans on a rock and watches the train pass far below. At the left is the stacked title. The far right shows a sculptural, tall \"1.\" Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" and \"Mounted on Cardstock\" as made. We believe there is only one other proof in private hands. That note is still on an uncut proof sheet; it was originally from the 1990 American Banknote Company Archives sale, and it was later sold in the first Krause auction.
