PCGS Extremely Fine 45.  The Civil War State of Mississippi notes varied in style and complexity as the war progressed. The initial series notes printed on red fiber bond paper from plates engraved by the American Bank Note Co. N.Y. & N.O. are beautifully crafted, state-of-the-art types. The Criswell listings (now Shull-Criswell listings published by Whitman) separate combinations of issue dates and the dates payable in the future. A slave saddles a black horse that nuzzles its companion. At lower left is a portrait of state treasurer Col. M.D. Haynes in formal dress, engraved for this series. At lower right, a pleasant young woman with a flower in her hair. Numerical counters are at the top corners. A vermillion protector is over the denomination and obligation, and small vermillion Roman numeral counters flank the vignette. The margins are complete, and the colors vibrant. Ex: Eric P.
