Lutesville, MO - Ozark Iron Company's Store $1 January 1, 1874. PCGS Very Fine 25 Apparent. An extremely rare denomination and much different than the change bills from the issuer. The dollar denominations are in a larger format, nearly the size of Federal currency in circulation. Printed on bond paper by the St. Louis Democrat Litho. & Printing Co., with their imprint at the bottom. A fancy border is all around with STATE OF MISSOURI in the top center. At upper left is a Federal eagle (adapted from the National Bank Note Co.) with titles to the right, below which are the and city and full engraved date. The obligations are across with ONE DOLLAR and a large red \"1\" protector at the center. A beehive is at upper right with a \"1\" die below. The engraved manger's signature is at the bottom. The fancy green back has \"Receivable / for / Merchandise / at / Cash Prices\" in a central cartouche flanked by \"1/ONE\" counters. Noted with \"Edge Splits, Tears, and Minor Damage; Minor Mounting Remnants on Back.\" This engraved-date issued note was likely used to pay workers during the financial panic. These dollar denominations were not in the Vacca sale. Despite faults observed more from the back, this is an important iron company rarity. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society \n\n
