St. Louis, MO - Bank of the State of Missouri $10 Dec. 7, 1842 MO-60 S5 Spurious Issue. PCGS Very Good 10 Apparent. A well-known spurious type, described in period Bank Note Reporters and Counterfeit Detectors. This imitates the earlier style Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co. Phila. & New York $10 plate, but with major differences. The overall layout, titles, and counters are similar to the genuine; however, the custom-engraved Zebulon Pike steamboat vignette is not used by the counterfeiters. The transportation-themed vignette instead shows an early train heading east and a steamboat heading west in the background; the end portraits are Washington at left and Lafayette at right rather than Clark and Boone. The Shields signature at left is engraved. \"Minor Mounting Remnants on Back\" are noted by grading. Better than average condition for the type.
