Proof. PCGS Choice New 63.  A rarely seen Wisconsin title. This proof is likely unique in private hands; the other is on the sheet at the Wisconsin Historical Society. Thoughtfully engraved by Wellstood, Hay & Whiting, New York, it was printed on India paper and mounted on its original cardstock. The town's emblem of the elk's head is featured prominently at top center. At lower right, Justice is seated on a bale next to the \"1\" counter on which she rests her hand. Cherubs flank the cartouche containing the signature lines with red ONE protector. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" and \"Mounted on Cardstock\" as made. Other than this $1 proof, we know of only the Krause Collection low-grade $1 issued note from the series. The $3 proof from this series, PCGS Very Choice New 64 Apparent, realized $3,525 in Newman Part VI. This is a very bold proof offering, and the red protector provides great contrast. Ex: Eric P.
