Proof. PCGS Gem New 66PPQ. The third denomination from this series of well-engraved proofs by Toppan, Carpenter, Casilear & Co. This Gem is printed on India paper and mounted on its original cardstock. This is the earliest style $5 with engraved Capital $50,000 on the plate. America is shown at the center holding a shield; a capped liberty pole is across her knee. The United States Capitol building is behind. Between \"5\" counters at the left end, a train vignette is in a cartouche. Like the $2 proof from the series, the only example in private hands. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" and \"Mounted on Cardstock\" as made. This has an impressive layout and is a deeply inked proof. Ex: Eric P.
