The higher denomination in the fifth Republic series, issued from Austin, engraved and printed by Rawdon, Wright Hatch & Edson, New Orleans with the added imprint of Rawdon, Wright & Hatch, New York. These are the Orange Star back notes, and they are especially attractive. The introduction of the intaglio color backs on this series is one of the earlier uses of color backs in American security printing history and practice. This is an is especially ornate note. A paddlewheel steamer is at the top right center. At the upper left is Venus Rising from the Sea, adapted from the art of John Barry (1772). A male portrait is at the far right between \"50\" dies. Like the other denominations on the orange back series, it has the large five-pointed Texas Star with each letter of T E X A S in between a star point respectively. Noted as \"Cross-Cut Cancelled\" from the period and with \"Tape Repaired Cancellations.\" These notes are justifiably very popular and this is a handsome type. Ex: Eric P.
