This marvelous beauty was the top of the two-subject proof sheet from the 1990 American Bank Note Company Archive auction, lot 854. One of the most impressive Danforth imprint family's allegorical vignettes is seen at the top center. Wielding paintbrushes, mallet and chisel, and a compass, the three allegorical figures seem to be putting the finishing touches on a bust of George Washington. Mesmerizing vermillion \"50\" counters are in the upper corners. An oval Henry Clay portrait is at lower left; at lower right is a circular steamboat at landing scene. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" and \"Mounted on Cardstock\" as made. Penciled \"64\" at upper right of wide card for identification. The bottom margin is tight, otherwise this looks like a Gem.
