A pair of rather worn, issued change notes printed on thick paper and circulated in the 1780 and 1790s as paper tokens in lieu of difficult-to-find coins and the absence of the U.S. Mint operation. First Presbyterian Church in Newark 3 pence Dec. 16, 1790 (Newman page 266). Solid, deeply embedded soiling obscures some detail, proving these were hard used. Net Good for the type; Corporation of the City of New York 3 Pence February 20, 1790 (Newman page 305). Good to VG, hard folds and deep, embedded soiling.
