Lexington, MO - Farmers Bank of Missouri, at___ $10 18__ MO-15 G46a. Proof. PCGS Superb Gem New 67PPQ. This stunning Superb Gem New 67PPQ proof begins a quartet of equally spectacular impressions. Though there were several $10-$10-$10-$10 color sheets in the 1990 ABN Sale, some with shade variations, this individual proof and the its three companions are likely the finest known examples. They were cut from the Bald, Cousland & Co. archive book page card sheet and are perfect as the day they were printed over 150 years ago. A beautiful reddish-orange tint plate was used for these proofs. Lighter orange lace tint graces all but the signature blocks (which show the color but not the lace), the bottom corner vignettes, and the large TEN protector, which is outlined in a deeper orange. Top corners have \"10\" dies at each end of the arced title. Above the title is a dynamic cotton-wagon scene, with six mules straining to pull the heavy load as the slave who is driving cracks his whip. The bottom left portrait is the first president of the bank, Robert Aull (NPS Santa Fe National Historic Trail, 417. Battle of Lexington State Park). Biographical information from The State Historical Society of Missouri states that Robert Aull, who once partnered in general stores with his brothers, later took over the Independence location that supplied westbound travelers on the Santa Fe trail. At lower right is a full-length portrait of a Native American. Plate A. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" and \"Mounted on Cardstock,\" as made. A perfect top-position proof. We sold an India paper example, stamped on the back by the ABN, graded PCGS Gem New 66PPQ for $881.25 in January 2017. An exquisite type in superb condition.
