Proof. PCGS Very Choice New 64 Apparent. The bank title is interesting and rare, using complementary Henry Hudson vignette dies originally engraved by Durand, Perkins & Co. for the bank's private use on banknote plates. This proof is printed on India paper only, but with the succeeding Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Co., New-York imprint. The top center scene shows Henry Hudson's Discovery of the Hudson River. Hudson's ship Half Moon sails past the Palisades, which are inscribed with the error date of 1608; Hudson's voyage actually took place in 1609. Flanking are ONE dies. A female portrait is at left with the Comptroller's Office pledge. On the panel at right are corner portraits, with John Jay at the upper right and a male portrait (possibly DeWitt Clinton) at bottom. The vignette is one of the great historical scenes on Obsolete currency, and the error date makes it more interesting. Noted with \"Mounting Remnants on Back\" that do not affect the eye appeal. Very bold and handsome. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society\n\nRealized $1175.00. Newman VII (Heritage Auctions, 10/2015), lot 18517.
