Colonial American Fiscal Paper - Thomas Ivers, Esq [for the] Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Boston Resolve of July 10, 1783 Form for Town Levy of \"....Quota's Required\" for \"....furnishing Provisions for the Army\" Anderson-Smythe-Unlisted. When examined closely, this Commonwealth fiscal document reveals an interesting facet of early American towns' relationships with their state governments. This is not in Anderson-Smythe, but it is not strictly a debt certificate or related in that manner, as are most items in that book. Instead, it requires particular towns to levy goods or real estate for provisions due to the army by value and type of goods, based upon their agreements with the Commonwealth. Printed form on watermarked laid paper, 21.0 cm by 32.0 cm, without imprint. Typeset in Roman fonts, with large titles at the top, issued under the authority of Thomas Ivers, Esq. Lengthy obligations and penalties (like \"gaol\") are across. Spaces for town, amount and type of deficiency, goods or real estate to be pledged, required dates, and amounts. Issued to the Town of Medford, County of Middlesex. The notation at left shows the amount of 5,778 pounds of beef at 4 pence per equal to 96 pounds 6 shillings 0 pence. January 6, 1786. A paper seal is affixed at the top. The verso has endorsements and docket. The penciled Chapman pedigree is in the lower right back corner. Well embossed, with minor edge nicks or short splits.
