PCGS Very Choice New 64PPQ. The Federal government seized the Montgomery plates in New York, and the demand for more paper money led to the printing of lithographed notes by Hoyer & Ludwig. These second series notes did not pay interest. The circulation increase made it impossible for the Register and the Treasurer to actually sign all the notes. This led to substitute officials or \"for the\" signers. The July 25, 1861 $100, printed on thin paper, is very scarce in high grades. But this is a beautifully framed, boldly impressed, nearly Gem note. At the center, the mythological mother and daughter Ceres and Proserpina fly through the air with agricultural tools and a brimming cornucopia. A framed oval portrait of Washington is at lower left. This is gorgeous type note and one of the finest looking examples we have encountered. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society\n\nRealized $3055.00.
