Proof. PCGS Gem New 66PPQ.  The first proof series from the Newman Collection Wisconsin Obsolete notes offered here is likely unique in private hands. The only other proofs are in the Wisconsin Historical Society. This example, from a series that was not in the comprehensive Chester L. Krause Collection, is in magnificent condition. Engraved and printed by Toppan, Carpenter & Co., an imprint not in the American Banknote Company Archives dispersal auction in 1990, this is a superb India paper proof mounted on cardstock. The notes for circulation used red protectors, and they are rare. The rural style vignettes include a gristmill scene above the title. In the foreground, a man carries a heavy sack of grain while his horse nuzzles her foal; a millstone rests against the building. At near left, a child lazes on a bridge while his companion relaxes nearby. A blacksmith working with long tongs is at the lower left. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" and \"Mounted on Cardstock\" as made. Boldly inked and very vibrant. The $1 Proof graded PCGS Superb Gem New 67PPQ realized $3,760 at the Newman Part VI sale in April 2015. This is equally desirable and likely the only example available to collectors. Ex: Eric P.
