Proof. PCGS Choice About New 58 Apparent.  This is a very well styled India paper proof on cardstock by Toppan, Carpenter, Casilear & Co., Phila. & New-York. This was branch payable with the location line at the upper center. The eye is immediately drawn to the bottom center vignette. Wearing a laurel wreath, an allegorical female sits on a throne with supports made from fasces. A sword is by her right hand, and in her left, she holds an olive branch. An eagle perches on the shield at her feet. Behind her is a panoramic view of a town, river and mountains. At left, beneath a \"50\" counter, both the man and the dog in the forest have a watchful appearance. At the upper right, seated Commerce holds an oval profile portrait of Washington in classical garb. The Washington portrait was also used on the first American postage stamp series. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" and Mounted on Cardstock\" as made. The \"Edge Tears and Damage\" mentioned by grading are mostly confined to the upper corners.
