It now stands, reconstructed, in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The temple was originally built by Augustus in honor of two brothers, Peteese and Pihor, who were elevated to divine status in the area of Dendur, though the reason for their deification is unclear. The temple is small and simple in plan: a pylon fronts a small court with a columned pronaos, inner hall and sanctuary. Its decoration shows the king (Augustus) before various gods, including the two deified brothers, along with the solar god Mandulis, Satis of Elephantine, and Arensnuphis, the \"companion\" of Isis, deities honored in a number of Nubian temples.
