PCGS Very Fine 30 Apparent. The 500 Mils notes, or half of one Palestine Pound, were the smallest denominations that circulated in Palestine. The currency needed to be pegged to the British Pound Sterling for its stability and acceptance. Adjusted to today's money, 500 Mils represented a considerable amount. Circulating side by side were Turkish Lira and Egyptian Pounds. Egypt's currency was European backed, the puppet monarchy there (necessary for protection of the Suez Canal) ruled by the recently elevated King Farouk. The Palestine Currency Board series is attractively engraved by Thomas de la Rue. This is a classic and colorful purple framed note by De La Rue, with Rachel's tomb near Bethlehem at the left and on the back, the Citadel of Jerusalem, also printed in purple. Noted are some \"Minor Ink Stains on Back.\" They are in the back center and do not affect the face. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society\n\nRealized $1057.50.
