(St. James), MO - Wm. James-Maramec Iron Works $2 Feb. 1, 1869. PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ. A second dollar-denominated note issued by the Maramec Iron Works and exceptionally well executed by the National Bank Note Company. The note has the faintest handling and looks virtually perfect. This was also part of a cut, matched serial 777-numbered sheet that has resided in the Newman Collection for decades. The face style is similar on each denomination with the following elements in brown undertint: the frame with interior and corner flourishes, guilloche, and large \"2\" protector underneath the title. A family of sheep is at the upper left, a pensive young woman below, and facing dog's head at the lower right. The engraved \"Wm. James\" signature is at the bottom. The intricate, slightly different from the $1, has micro-dies, counters at each end, and the obligation in the center. The face and back are glorious, and this beautiful note is destined for the finest cabinet. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society \n\n
