The Alcazaba has an 11th-century trapezoidal Zirid core with small solid towers. The Nasrids added a 13th-century outer enclosure and vaulted towers (Vela, Armas, Homenaje and Adarguero) under Muhammad I. The Alcazaba contains military quarters, a cistern, hammām, houses, storerooms and dungeons. A third northern enclosure was initiated with the great Puerta de las Armas, which controlled access from Granada. The Quebrada Tower on the east side of the fortress was probably rebuilt in the 14th century under Yusuf I. Grove Dictionary of Art.
