Pennsylvania June 15, 1767 6 Pounds Fr. PA-129. PCGS Very Fine 30PPQ. This distinctively printed issue is easily the rarest late series of Pennsylvania notes. We are aware of only three issued notes in private collections from the issue date including this example. The only other 6 pounds known is the Boyd note sold in Ford Part X, May 2005 (the Newman plate) graded raw Fine for $5,175. No new official notes had been printed since the June 18, 1764, Franklin and Hall notes, making this issue necessary. In the interim, 1766 Merchants Association bills that were 5% interest bearing were emitted privately. Due to the potential for fraud, as well as lack of redemption, a group of merchants were wary of this private issue. They begged the Assembly to bar private notes, and eventually an issuance of 20,000 pounds worth of bills was approved by the May 20, 1767, Act. This is the first Pennsylvania series with the Hall and Sellers imprint. The Penn family coat of arms is at lower right adjacent to a border cut with a spiraling design. The uniquely designed back makes use of the wide format with two adjacent nature print designs. Fully issued, with signers Rhoads Jr., Joseph Richardson, and Thomas Wharton. In addition to its exceptional rarity, the note is by far the finest known from the act. This serial No. 77 note is strongly printed on both sides, well detailed, and sharply signed. A vibrant example from this historically important Hall and Sellers imprint issue. Another unsurpassable example to our knowledge from the Newman Cabinet. Ex: Eric P.
