This South Carolina prize has been in the Newman Collection for decades. We are uncertain how many are known, but the series did not appear in the 1990 American Banknote Company sale, and we believe the Sheheen book plate is a photocopy. At top center, seated Learning, holding an open book, lifts up a cup to the heavens. Ornate end panels show the denomination, at left, and CHARLESTON, at right.
