PCGS Very Fine 25 Apparent.   A second rare denomination from this National Bank Note Co., N.Y. printed series. Similar in size and layout to the 5 cents. A beautifully engraved woman with embellished hair and a cornucopia occupies the left end. Titles are across the center over a red \"10\" protector. At upper right is a hexagonal \"10\" die. The obligation states \"In Merchandise at Cash retail prices / at their Store\" over C.A. Pilley's engraved signature. A March 5, 1881, item in the Fair Play newspaper of Ste. Genevieve lists Mr. C. A. Pilley as the manager of the company. Noted with \"Small edge Splits; Hinge Repair on Back.\" It has a clean appearance from the face and is superior to the 1981 Vacca lot 512 note. Ex: Eric P.
