It is considered to be one of the finest palazzi in the city and, because of the prismatic cut of its masonry, was once known as the 'Palazzo dei Diamanti'. The building was begun by Nicolò Sanuti, Conte di La Poretta (d 1482), and finished by his widow Nicolosa. Subsequent damage to the fabric (especially in the interior) was repaired at the instance of Duca Lamberto Bevilacqua; accurate and scrupulous restorations were executed in 1907 and 1908 by A. Rubbiani (1848–1913) and the painter A. Casanova (1861–1948). The palazzo is currently lived in by members of the Bevilacqua family. Grove Dictionary of Art.
