Edwardsville, IL - Bank of Edwardsville Uncut Sheet of 50 Cents (6)/25 Cents (6) Sept. 1, 1818 IL-220 G10 (6)/G6 (6). PCGS About New 50 Apparent. This sheet shows a territorial-period date, just three months prior to statehood; thus, it is one of the earliest Illinois Obsolete currency items known. The Bank of Edwardsville was in southern Illinois and issued small change notes, as seen on this sheet, and dollar-denominated notes with vignettes, which notes were engraved by Tanner, Kearny & Tiebout. Though this has no imprint, the side lathe work style matches similar notes from the imprint. The sheet is on pink bond paper in a vertical orientation with six notes down of one denomination with the other denomination across and down. Each individual note has a simple design with the title, engraved date, and obligation in the center within fancy end panels. This twelve-note sheet is fully issued with each note signed by the cashier. We have observed individual remainder notes; there was also a full proof sheet with this layout sold in the 1990 American Bank Note Company Archives sale (Lot 350). That sheet was cut after the sale and individual proofs have appeared in our auctions. However, we have never seen an issued change bill or a sheet like this. Noted with \"Small Edge Split at Left; Minor Stains; Minor Ink Erosion.\" This note is very bold from the face, and the faults are minor. The Bank of Edwardsville dollar-denominated notes from the Newman Collection were actively pursued in Newman Internet 3 on May 3, 2017.
