This and the following 37-1/2 Cents notes are fascinating reminders of War of 1812 history and the strategic importance of the Great Lakes bordering Canada. A wide format note printed by J. Oram, New York payable at three locations as noted on the top border: New-York, Albany and Whitehall. The specific merchants are listed in the obligation text across, below the \"6 ?\" and textual denomination. Along the bottom is the clause, \"Receivable on board lake Champlain Steam Boats,\" which adds great character and charm to this unlisted rarity. Noted with \"Stains; Minor Edge Damage.\" The four Newman Collection notes from this issuer are the only examples we have seen.
