A very distinctive Wellstood, Hay & Whiting, New York & Chicago proof on India paper mounted on original cardstock. A wide scene showing a rural family is at the top. The father leans on the fence, interacting with his wife and child on the other side as a cow stands by ready for milking. At left, a large \"1\" has sprouted vines. The large \"1\" in the counter at top right separates a Native American man and Ceres. The issued notes used red protectors, and the G6a $3 issued note in Krause Part I realized $3,220 back in September 2009. We believe the Newman Collection proofs are the first ever offered for sale. The $3 proof from the $1-$2-$3-$5 sheet in PCGS Very Choice New 64 realized $2,585 in the April 2015 Newman Part VI sale. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" and \"Mounted on Cardstock\" as made.
