Shaw, Wharf-boat $1 May 15, 1862. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent.  An extremely rare town and issuer. The note and series are the first seen by us. Printed on the back of part of a Providence, La. municipal draft form, the issuer mostly visible. As befits the title, the vignette at upper left shows a steamboat at sail adjacent to the location and date. The obligation is across the center under a bold yellow ONE DOLLAR protector (this color and style is similar to some Parish of Carroll notes). The left end panel shows ONE DOLLAR perpendicular in a cartouche. A decorative border is all around. There is another series issued by Shaw and printed on thin, translucent paper without protector or vignettes. We handled a 10 cents note from the series at our 2008 Long Beach auction, ex: Norman Collection, that realized $4,888. This is a different type and might be the only other note from this issuer. Noted with a \"Small Edge Split at Bottom Center.\" The minor flaw is overwhelmed by the vibrant color and strong paper quality. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society\n\nRealized $3290.00.
