Proof. PCGS Choice New 63.  This is another impressive proof note and one of the rarest from the Newman Collection. It is certain to excite specialists. The bank operated for a few years only and this $50 A.B. & C. Durand, Wright & Co. imprint thin card proof is SENC in Haxby. The Sheheen plate note is a photocopy of another example. The style is riveting and the top central vignette, though not signed by Asher Durand, has his style flowing through it. Moneta is enthroned on a stack of partially draped bales at the seashore. In the near right background, Neptune rides in his chariot. A clipper ship is being propelled by a stiff breeze at the left. Oval lathe work dies are at top and bottom on both ends, with a circular Patrick Henry portrait between. The banner above the cornucopia cleverly provides the imprint. The depiction of Patrick Henry with spectacles on his brow was adapted from the Sully painting. Noted as \"Pen Cancelled\" which consists of short flourishes through the signature blocks.
