The setting is a kitchen, with a table and chair in the foreground.  An older woman, dressed in black, with a black hat, very much in 1900s/1910s style, is seated in the chair, leaning down to place her hands on either side of the face of the younger woman kneeling before her.  The younger woman looks careworn.  She's wearing a dark skirt or dress--the top is covered by what appears to be a shawl.
