The purpose of the letter is to request that Tom act as pastor for the month of October. A.A. states that the compensation is fifteen dollars per Sunday, and if Tom were to accept that he would likely stay with one or more of the families in the parish. They note that the “Society” is not large, but is important due to the Theological School there, its proximity to “oil regions”, and the “gathering of influential parties from all parts of the country.” A.A. expresses hope that Tom will say yes and sends kind regards to his father and family.  \nWilliam includes a note to Tom that he is forwarding the letter as requested, without comment.
