He says it feels like only yesterday they were young and in Europe together, and William feels that in 15 years he has aged 150. He mentions his grief at losing their baby, and goes on to give updates about his six surviving children. The next morning he continues the letter, mentioning how due to his stance on the war he has lost some congregants, though they are starting to come back. William goes on to talk some about the Price-Harney Truce, and then tells of the work he has done with the Sanitary Commission. He gives an update on [Washington] University, that it has felt the difficult times but that they will hopefully recover. Some discussion of Chancellor Hoyt's failing health, and William wonders who will replace him. The work of the Mission House continues, if at a lesser amount than before. William is hopeful that things will improve as time goes on, thought he last year has been very difficult. His health is good and he sends his love to various people.
