Text on the walls is in German. Now the hotel is known as La Palma. In the heart of Capri, alongside the famous town square, soars a gargantuan centuries-old palm tree that lent its name to Capri's oldest hotel. More than 150 years have gone by since Giuseppe Pagano decided to open his home as a lodging-house. In 1845, \"Casa Pagano\" was extended and adapted to be better able to welcome the many foreign visitors coming to Capri. As such, the original building became Hotel Pagano, described by Ferdinando Gregorovius after his visit to Capri in 1853. Hotel Pagano was the artists' favorite haunt. And especially for the scores of writers and poets who faithfully dedicated parts of their works to Don Pagano. One of Pagano's most regular visitors was the Alsatian artist Benner, who painted many of the murals that adorned the hotel for many years. http://www.lapalma-capri.com/en/history.htmlPrint has a blank margin at the bottom with a black caption."},{"label":"Subject (Time Period)","value":["Nineteenth century [LCSH]"]},{"label":"Physical Dimensions of Original","value":"20.7 x 25.5 cm"},{"label":"Image View Type","value":"Hotel; photographs"},{"label":"Collecting Area","value":["Kranzberg Art & Architecture Library"]},{"label":"Collection Name","value":["19th Century Architectural Photography Collection"]},{"label":"Subject (Geographic)","value":["Capri (Italy) [LCNAF]"]},{"label":"Description","value":"Print has a blank margin at the bottom with a black caption."},{"label":"Subject (Topical)","value":["Hotels [LCSH]"]},{"label":"Genre Form","value":["Photographs [LCGFT]"]},{"label":"Type","value":["Still image"]},{"label":"Legacy Identifier","value":"6174"},{"label":"Medium","value":["black and white photography","albumen paper"]},{"label":"Inscription","value":"lower left, in black: 6174 CAPRI Hotel Pagano; lower right, in black: G.
