This very scarce series is beautifully engraved by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson/New England Bank Note Co. George Washington is dramatically posed under the curving FIVE at top left. With one foot resting on a cannon trail and his sword in his right hand, he stretches out his left arm, gesturing toward the title. The large, spread-winged eagle in the foreground at lower right dwarfs the capitol building in the background. With the talons of one foot, he grips the rock in the sea. He firmly plants those of his other foot on the edge of the sideways Stars and Stripes shield that rests on the E PLURIBUS UNUM banner. Light scrollwork enhances the text. A \"5\" counter is at upper right. Right of center, the textual denomination is outlined by the same gray shade of the numerical counter behind. Although noted with \"Minor Damage in LR Corner; Minor Stains\" by grading, this piece has a very dynamic layout and is rarely encountered in higher grade. Ex: Eric P.
