PCGS Extremely Fine 45. A beautifully engraved Danforth, Wright & Co. type from an intriguing Southern bank with ties to New York City. The signature of G.(Gazaway) B.(Bugg) Lamar is familiar to Confederate note collectors as he was the agent who obtained the initial Montgomery series notes using his connections with New York banknote engraving firms. At the bottom center is a wide scene of period river-rafting. Bottom corners show drovers at left and a woodsman at right respectively. A red protector TWENTY is across the center. The back is stamped in red as \"Redeemed by Bank Republic New York.\" This was Lamar's other bank, used to redeem these notes in the North to make an additional profit percentage. A well-margined and sharp example. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016).\n\n(Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.)
