About fifty $5 San Jose National Gold Bank notes have been reported to date, with this specimen included in that listing. Most are well circulated pieces. As author Don Kelly mentions, in National Bank Notes \"the average condition of the [National Gold Bank Note] survivors [is] deplorably low.\" This example is actually nicer than the majority of San Jose notes, with decent color and body for the grade, but the flaws mentioned by PCGS, \"Spits, Tears, Minor Edge Fraying; Pinholes\" are quite typical for the issue and are all present to one degree or another on most of the extant pieces.
