The rebuilding of the shrine began in the eleventh month of 1634 and was completed in the fourth month of 1636. Almost all the extant shrine buildings date from this time. Tokugawa Iemitsu was buried as he had wished near the Tōshōgū, where the Taiyūin mausoleum was built for him. The style of the Taiyūin is the same as that of the Tōshōgū but smaller and somewhat more modest.
