Undated, circa 1830-40s. Philadelphia and New-York. A large format sheet on India paper only. This sample proof sheet is a very rare type. At the center, incorporating the titles and locations, is a mock-style advertising note for the firm. Left and right ends have panels and end vignettes, including the \"Indian Princess\" as used on the Confederate States of America T35 note. Also, the companion \"Indian Prince\" that is used on Confederate bonds and paired with the \"Princess\" on the Bank of Charleston $5 Haxby SC-10 G2 proofs (see Newman Part VII: Lot 18572). Other real-life and allegorical vignettes abound along with smaller portraits and dies. Two rare historical War of 1812 vignettes are near the bottom across from each other: the Battle of New Orleans as used on Abderdeen, Mississippi (Newman Part VI: Lot 19196) and the Battle of Plattsburgh Bay. Boldly printed and wide margined. A piece is sheared off the upper left and into the border and Washington cameo portrait. There are some mended tears seen from the back.
