A unique complete face and back pair of a superbly engraved type. Each is an India paper proof mounted on original card by Danforth, Bald & Co., New-York & Philada. The obligations are similar to the $1 notes, but the date space is slightly different, with \"185_\" engraved instead of \"18__.\" The title arcs at top center, with the denomination and protector beneath; upper corners show a \"2\" and TWO; and the clamshell with the firm's locations is at the bottom, right of center. In the wide progress-themed vignette at lower left, a Native American hunter, with spear dynamically diagonal, stands with his horse on a bluff facing right. Below, a train travels west as bow-hunters and bison travel east with a mountain vista behind. America, as seen on the Quincy City Bank $20 in this sale, is at the lower right. Plate A face and color back. The face is noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" and both are \"Mounted on Card Stock\" as made. The only complete $2 proof pair known and with the inspiring face engraving by Danforth, Bald & Co. A very appealing series and type.
