PCGS Very Fine 25 Apparent.  The Cook & Brother issues are popular, and there are many variants such as handwritten dates, imprints, paper types and printed backs to collect. This issuer played an important role in the Civil War. It was the largest private manufacturer of small rifles and carbines for the Confederacy. At the end of April 1862, the city of New Orleans fell to the Union, and the Cook & Brother company was forced to relocate to Athens, Georgia. This $1 is printed on yellow paper with a Douglas imprint and a blank back. A seated allegorical female leans on a Confederate emblem shield at top center, with title above and obligation below. The left end shows the crossed rifles seen on this series. A green protector ONE is at the bottom. Noted is a \"Repaired Edge Split at Right.\" This is a bright example, and always in demand.
