Proof. PCGS About New 53.  A very bold India paper proof impression of this iconic Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co. plate design. The vignette at the right side became the \"Indian Princess,\" adapted for the Confederate States of America $5 Type 35 note. The bank retained their $5-$5-$5-$5 plate for the series it was sent it to Hoyer & Ludwig in Richmond to produce that iconic and rare Confederate type. The seated female at the top center wearing period dress represents Plenty, Commerce, Navigation, and Hope. A thriving harbor is seen in the background. The ends are stylishly complementary. At the left, the prince rests at the riverbank with his elbow on one knee, appearing to wait for his princess, who is pictured at the right end across the river. The vignette pairing does appear on the same Confederate States bond, but only the princess appears on a Confederate currency note. Designated as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" as made. We note faint wisps of foxing and handling. This is a superb impression and an essential historic type for Confederate currency collectors to understand the evolution of the notes. Ex: Eric P.
