City of Jefferson, MO - State of Missouri (Missouri Defence Bond) Act of November 5, 1861 $500 10% Coupon Bonddue January 1, 1865Jan'y 1, 1862 Cr. 61G. Fine to Very Fine. The other denomination printed from the Act was $500, using $25 coupon payments. This is a three-year bond due on January 1, 1867 (note, the Cr. 61G is out of order). Printed on cream paper, by John Douglas, who was an engraver and lithographer located at \"10 Camp St. N.O.\" (seen at the base of the vignette). The layout and style are like the $100 bonds. The common vignette from the series is at the upper right with the Missouri Arms encircled by agricultural and transportation motifs. Titles are to the left and the obligation is below. Ends have a corner denomination, Act date, and receivable clause. A red \"$500\" protector is across, and an embossed seal is at the left. Written date. No. 423. Countersigned by Confederate General C.[laiborne] F.[ox] Jackson. Complete, with five signed and numbered $25 coupons underneath. Untrimmed, and wide along the bottom under the coupons.
