The church, repeatedly restored and remodeled over the years, was damaged in 1833 by a fire that destroyed the apse and the altar. In 1927 a new sacristy was built and sixteenth century decoration was removed for replacement. The church facade has a short stairway leading up to the central portal, topped by a tympanum decorated in marble bas-relief. Two flanking niches are topped with triangular pediments. Above this course is a dedicatory inscription, on top of which is another, larger curved tympanum. The upper order is lined with Corinthian pilasters and in the center is a large window topped by a tympanum. The sides are volutes topped with Borghese eagles. The interior of the church has one long, central nave with three chapels on each long side, richly decorated in marble, stucco, and frescoes. One of the most famous works of art housed in this church is Bernini's Saint Teresa in Ecstasy. Lombardi, Ferruccio. \"Roma: Chiese, Conventi, Chiostri, progetto per un inventario 313-1925.\" Roma: Edilstampa, 1993, p. 337.
