PCGS Fine 12.  This is a rare bank from outside Philadelphia and its notes have always been well collected. Listed in Haxby, without a plate note illustration, and illustrated in Wismer (W-1094). A beautiful National Bank Note Company engraved note. It includes one of the rarest vignettes from their catalog at the lower left: a girl in a rocking chair hugs her cat closely as a hen and chicks feed from a dish on the floor. A view of the canal area shows a train passing. Rail transport contributed to the demise of the canal system known as the Schuylkill Navigation. A smiling young woman is at lower right. The base vignette shows a small Phoenix rising from the flames. A deep vermillion protector ONE is at bottom center. The note is bright, despite its circulation.
