Printed on India paper from the plates engraved by the American Bank Note Company. The head of a girl, adorned by leaves and clusters of grapes is at center under the arced denomination. To her left, a \"5\" counter, and in the corner a \"V\" over lathe work; to her right, a \"5\" counter on lathe work, and in the corner, an arced \"FIVE\" on a simple background. The detailed vignette at the lower left shows a train with passengers preparing to embark; the locomotive is shown with a cowcatcher. The cartouche at lower right shows a banner reading ETOILE DU NORD (Star of the North, but missing L' and the accent), the state motto dating from 1861. The farmer and Native Americans in the scene are looking northward. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" and \"Mounted on Cardstock\" as made. This is the only contemporary printed proof known and listed on the census. A superb example and, like the others from this series, exquisite.   Ex: Eric P.
