PCGS Gem New 66 PPQ.  This is one of many superb Missouri proofs that Eric Newman acquired directly from D. C. Wimser between 1936 and 1939, according to their correspondence. Each of the proofs with the Wismer pedigree has diagnostic stamp hinges, one at each end, on the blank back. This Danforth, Wright & Co., Philad. & New-York imprint color proof is printed on India paper and mounted on its original card stock. It is a bold Gem proof and uses a rarely seen Danforth, Wright & Co. major vignette. The busy riverboat landing is shown in great detail. Ship after ship has gangways ready for transporting onboard the goods that are piled on the shore. A leather-dressing scene is at lower left. At lower right is a portrait of an older man used by the bank, presumably an officer, depicted in an oval frame. Full rust-red tint lace is across the note, with a deeper red protector TEN at the bottom. This is one of the most beautifully crafted color proofs of the late 1850s. Noted as \"Hole Punch Cancelled\" and \"Mounted on Cardstock\" as made. It is amazing to consider this was acquired over 75 years ago from the foundational Obsolete currency scholar, the man after whom the Society of Paper Money Collectors named their book series. The series and type appeared multiple decades later in the 1990 American Bank Note Company sale. They were fervently pursued and, 20 years after, a single $10 proof of this type from the mentioned sale realized $20,700 at Stack's 52 Collection Part I auction.
