PCGS Extremely Fine 45.  A superb grade National Bank Note Company engraved and printed rarity with a portrait of Civil War General Ambrose Burnside. The general's \"sideburns\" portrait appears on this series only. We know of only a few confirmed examples, and this note is in stellar grade. Under the arced title, Milking Time shows a farmwoman and her son holding open the gate for the cows. A milking stool and pail are nearby. Hope's anchor, the Rhode Island emblem, is at lower left, leaning on a rock. A sinking ship is in the background. The oval portrait of Burnside is at lower right. Serial 2801: Position A. We note that the Whitman Encyclopedia, Volume 5 plate note, page 145, is serial 2802: Position B. The note has a light vertical fold and some handling. Well margined and bright, with the appearance of an Uncirculated note. A Rhode Island Obsolete treasure with broad appeal and superb condition. Ex: Eric P.
