If the description of this variety looks a little confusing, let's analyze it, bit by bit. The 1858 is the \"normal\" or prime 4 numbers; the \"18\" represents the bases of those two numbers in the base of the rock over the main date; the \"1\" is the base of another 1 to the left of the main \"1\"; and the \"8\" is the arc of another 8 between the 5 and 8 and within the lower loop of the second 8. This latter number (\"8\") is on a completely different plane from the aforementioned 1. Therefore, this is actually a punched date.
