The opportunity to obtain an issued $2 may never return. The only four proofs from New Ulm sold for impressive prices in the April 2015 Newman Part VI sale. The layout and vignette details are quintessential Wellstood imprint styles. At the center, a steamboat heads down river with dark smoke coming from the stacks. In the bottom corners are an interesting paired set of seated female vignettes facing across the note. At the left is a Native American huntress and across, facing, an allegorical representation of History. The upper corners have matching \"2\" dies and ornate filigree. At bottom center is a red protector TWO. This is one of five issued notes of the type on the census. We sold a better, but not by that much, issued example last year for $1,057.50. Grading notes that this $2 is \"Backed; Tape Repaired,\" but it is very collectible, despite a faded date and the listed faults. Ex: Eric P.
